The Tote

The money taken is split between the fund-raiser and the winners. An example of the money raised from the tote is as follows;

IN RACE ONE
Horse 1 sells 10 tickets @ 50p =£5.00
Horse 2 sells 8 tickets @ 50p =£4.00
Horse 3 sells 16 tickets @ 50p =£8.00
Horse 4 sells 6 tickets @ 50p =£3.00
Horse 5 sells 15 tickets @ 50p =£7.50
Horse 6 sells 16 tickets @ 50p =£8.00
Horse 7 sells 18 tickets @ 50p =£9.00
Horse 8 sells 15 tickets @ 50p =£7.50

A total of £52.00

If in the above example the £52.00 from the first race is split 50/50 then the fund-raiser would make £26.00 and the winning ticket holders would share £26.00.
If Horse 2 wins this would be £26.00 split between 8 people, which equals £3.25 each.
If Horse 1 wins then there would be 10 winning tickets with a pay-out of £2.60 each.

...This is just the first of eight races for starters.

Tickets may be sold at whatever price you decide (£1 being the norm) being split between fund-raiser with the winning ticket holders again between 10% and 50% - you decide.

Once all bets are placed the tote is closed and the race film is shown. While this is happening the pay-out is calculated. After the race the winners are paid out. Allow about ten to twenty minutes to pass, while betting takes place for the next race, then its lights down and we’re off again.

TRI-CAST

This usually based on race six. You will be given an A3 card listing every possible combination of 1st 2nd and 3rd places. Each of the 336 combinations is sold prior to the event at £1.00 per time, raising an additional £336.00. This will give you £186.00 towards your fund-raising with a jackpot of £150.00 being paid to the winner.

DUAL FORECAST

An alternative to the Tri-cast Card, more suitable for smaller gatherings. The Dual Forecast card lists every combination of 1st and 2nd places in any chosen race. Each of the 56 combinations can be sold for £1.00 per time, raising an additional £56.00.
The proceeds are usually split 50/50 between the fund and winner.

THE AUCTION

Always carried out on the last race. This is where the compere auctions off all the horses to the highest bidders. The proceeds are split between winners and fund-raisers. Often adding a surprising amount to the monies already raised.
